When Marc met Alex

About Marcus

Hey, Alex here. I’m going to do my best to spare the mushy gushy stuff as I share what is so special to me about Mr. Marcus Franklin Johnson.

Marcus is a phenomenal example of creating an atmosphere where everyone can have an enjoyable and memorable time. He is known for lifting the mood in any room, as well as befriending anyone he comes across in a hallway. If you were to ask anyone who has associated with Marcus Johnson what he is like, you would immediately see a smile come across their face as they tell some crazy story about mega movie nights or the best DJ in the world. You might hear something about a Mitt look-alike. If you’re fortunate enough to ask the right person, however, you’d get some great story about the Elvis-Buble-Romney-Sinatra-Armstrong impersonator who drives around with a blanket and two long boards in his car, who spends time star-gazing in the grass after work in his dress clothes fresh from the dry cleaners. That person would be me.

What I appreciate most about Marcus is his ability to take the time to really help those around him understand how much he appreciates them. I, for one, will always remember a particular evening when I was about to say I couldn’t do something and Marcus stopped me mid-sentence, grabbed me by the hands, looked me square in the eye, and told me all the reasons what I was about to say was invalid.

For me, the most exciting aspect of marrying Marcus Johnson for time and all eternity is the knowledge that whenever we come up to life’s speed bumps, Marcus will always immediately pull over to the side of the road or take me out on a walk to resolve what was in our path. I am most thrilled to spend my life creating smiles, singing and dancing in the rain, and lying in the grass star-gazing with Marcus Johnson.

My Alexandria

Alexandria Ludlow is absolutely my best friend. She always has a big smile and a big laugh that always helps you find her in the crowd. Alex loves everyone – she genuinely wants to get on the level of anyone she’s with. That’s always evidenced when she’s around children. She’ll get on the floor and just ask them about their day. Soon enough, they’re best friends and the child will introduce Alex to their parents. I love it.

Perhaps what will always be a favorite memory was just recently, when the valley was hit with a big rain storm. Alex and I were visiting my parents where we had spent the day swimming with my niece and nephews. As Alex was getting ready for a wedding reception we had that evening, the storm blew in.  I was outside with the kids when all of a sudden, Alex came out with her hair done, wearing the most stunning brand new green-lace dress, and yelled “It’s raining!” She ran out into the pouring storm with the niece and nephews trying to catch up. At the end of the grassy-yard, she picked one of them up and ran back. She was absolutely drenched, but yet I had never seen her so beautiful.

Alexandria Ludlow is a wonderfully elegant woman. She is absolutely beautiful, affectionate, and sweet. But yet, she’s a girl who more than anything wants to swing in the park, run through sprinklers, and dance to music.

I am so excited to know that every time I look into her beautiful blue eyes, I am going to marry this girl!

I love Alexandria Ludlow and anxiously look forward to our life together.

The beautiful day of August 17, 2012

It all began in the University 5th Single’s ward. I noticed a particularly handsome someone that I became rather interested in getting to know further. We would barely get to introductions, however, when one of us would be whisked away to attend to some pressing item. Finally, one evening in December, I had my chance to have a conversation with this Marcus Johnson. In the course of the conversation, it came up that I play harp through ASU. He mentioned he’d like to hear me sometime, and I suggested right then. I played harp for him, he played piano for me, and thus began our beautiful relationship- to the sounds of music. The coming months would bring tales of chasing back and forth, ups and downs, fantastic dates, and making rain. One particular evening in mid-June, Marcus got down on one knee to ask me to be his best friend forever. I whole-heartedly said yes, and we are thrilled to begin a new chapter of life together. We gratefully thank those many wonderful helpers along the way who helped us and encouraged us to keep the course. Marcus and I are most excited to announce our wedding, but are even more enthusiastic to develop and create a lasting marriage.

Our Luna de Miel (honeymoon)

I surprised Alexandria with a trip to San Fran for our honeymoon! We had a blast at Pier 39 and Ghirardelli Square (the best day-trip combo), and also spent time in Oakland at the temple and visiting her hometown of Walnut Creek. I sure loved getting a snapshot of her childhood as we spent time in the Bay Area. Note the heavy jackets- the Mark Twain quote is absolutely true- it was freezing in August!
We came home to a surprise from my roommates- Ryan and Nate filled our bedroom with black balloons!

The day we kidnapped Grandma

I say kidnapped, but really we just surprised her by showing up at 7 am  one cool November morning to pick her up and take her to Thatcher. We also didn't run it by any of the family, a further element of surprise. So in a sense, we kidnapped her.

But! We had a blast. We listened to stories of her younger days in the Gila Valley with Grandpa Otho while cruising the street of Thatcher (singular on purpose). We visited the temple, the object of our day trip, because she had not yet been to the temple that popped up in her hometown! We did sealings with her, and then headed back home. We sure had a great time laughing the whole day long together!

Back to the City by the Bay

In December, we celebrated the birth of our Savior in the Bay Area with the Christensen family, where we were able to again visit some of our favorite San Fran sites.
